Amari learns that, to everyone’s surprise, the Bureau is not investigating the time freeze, because Bane is leading his own investigation. Bane also installed Harlowe as the new Director, so she speaks directly for the Prime Minister.
Amari and Elsie are shown to their new shared room, where they find their new cards for the social clubs they can join. Amari is stunned to find out that she has been invited to the highly exclusive Elite club. She realizes that it may be her chance to get closer to Bureau officials and find out more about the time freeze investigation. Elsie later does some research into Harlowe and learns that she was controversially granted such a dangerous magical ability that it has been kept off the official records. Amari and Elsie are intrigued but decide to stay away from Harlowe.
Later, Elsie notices that Lara is being bullied by some Junior Agents at a nearby table. Elsie and Amari get up to help her, but Lara resents their intervention.
After dinner, Amari and Elsie go to the Club Fair. There, they meet Tristan Davies, a prodigy who also belongs to the Elite club and arrogantly offers to be Amari’s new partner. The Elites are then invited into a luxurious tent where Bureau officials greet the new members.
