Cady goes to bed with her laptop and starts to write to help her remember. Suddenly, she recalls that the two golden retrievers, Fatima and Prince Philip, died in the fire because Granddad had locked them in the guest room. She feels so bad she flees the house and runs into Gat, who consoles her.
Gat lets her know there is even more to remember. He cries and says he has messed everything up. He feels he should have stayed away from Cady. She kisses him hard and tells him she loves him.
Cady remembers waking up during summer fifteen in a hospital with her feet and hands bandaged.
